Youth Mental Health First Aid Training for Camp Counselors and Staff

Overview

Are you planning to work at camp this summer? We want to make sure you have the skills and resources to support your campers, counselors, and staff. That’s why we are hosting two Youth Mental HeathFrist Aid training sessions open to all camp counselors working with middle and high school age teens, all camp administrative staff, and all those supervising camp counselors.

The program will be run by Rebecca Brown and Jaime Stepansky, both licensed social workers at Jewish Family & Career Services, in partnership with the Jewish Camping Initiative.

What will I learn at training?

  • Common mental health concerns among youth
  • Signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use problems in youth
  • Local resources and where to turn for help in the Atlanta Jewish community
  • 5 step action plan to assess a situation and help a youth

What topics are covered?

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Substance Use
  • Eating disorders
  • Disruptive Behavior Disorder (including AD/HD)
  • Eating Disorders

We are offering two opportunities to get trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid on Sunday, April 18 from 9:00am-2:00pm and Thursday, April 22, from 9:00am-2:00pm. Both training will have a one-hour break for lunch.

The registration fee is $40 which covers the cost of the training and the facilitators. In addition to the training session, there are 2 hours of independent learning to complete in advance that will be sent upon registration.
