The Strong Women: Know Them, Be Them Fellowship is an empowering educational cohort providing Jewish teens in Atlanta with unparalleled access to strong women leaders, thinkers and voices shaping the world we live in today.
Each month teen participants meet speakers and engage in relevant learning that speaks to what it means to be a woman in our time. This Fellowship helps young people grapple with the obstacles they face and prepares them to be the leaders they can be today and in the future.
Feminist Actions and Small Group Conversations
In addition to hearing from speakers throughout the year, Fellows will meet in small groups with others in their grade to participate in feminist actions and experiential conversations that will give them a place to feel safe, articulate their deepest concerns, consider the impact of gender on their daily lives, and make a meaningful impact in the world.
Fellows will explore conversation topics such as body image, friendship, relationships, family, competition, and stress. They will also engage in actions including volunteering at a women’s shelter and engaging in social justice causes. Small group conversations are developed in partnership with Moving Traditions, a national leader in community building for teens. These groups will be facilitated by a young professional in the Atlanta Jewish community.
Second year returning Strong Women Fellows have the opportunity to apply for the Strong Women Fellowship’s Peer Leader program. As a Peer Leader, Fellows attend training and work with speakers throughout the year to add their voice to each Strong Women event.
Third year returning Fellows have the chance to apply for the Teen Leadership Board to help choose the speakers and provide high-level feedback throughout the year. The Teen Leadership Board for ‘21-’22 has already been selected at this time and has been hard at work building this year’s Fellowship experience.
The fellowship cohort will meet approximately once each month from August 2021-May 2022. Meetings will take place on Sunday evenings. Due to the uncertainty of next year’s public health situation at this time, events may be virtual or in person at The Weber School.
Dates and details will be added to the itinerary on this page as available. Dates are subject to change. Participants are encouraged to attend every session.
The fellowship application closes Fri. Aug. 20, 2021. Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis through the deadline. This year’s Fellowship has spots available for 40 Fellows.
